Knight & Leavitt Associates has been utilizing Geographic Information Services (GIS) for project support since 2002. Using the power and time-tested abilities of the ESRI ArcGIS software as well as the cutting-edge technologies of open source and university developed software, we provide support for a wide variety of environmental projects. What makes our GIS personnel stand out is that our staff is fully cross trained with experience in desert tortoise biology, archaeology, botany, and wetlands data collection.
What Is GIS?
A GIS, or Geographic Information System, is the combination of capturing, managing, analyzing, modeling, and displaying anything that can be referenced to a time or place. A GIS is a multifaceted system that utilizes databases, geographic data, and visualizations to better explain the world around us, ultimately helping people make better informed decisions. At Knight & Leavitt Associates we utilize modern hardware, software, data, and techniques to support every project. We have a fully equipped GIS lab in our office, including multiple GIS workstations, a 24″ wide format printer, color laser printers, and four handheld Trimble GoeExplorer GPS units.
GIS Services Provided
- On-Call GIS Services
- Field Data Collection
- Right of Way (ROW) Analysis
- Photographic Simulation
Knight & Leavitt Associates GIS services include on-call mapping, data collection, and data research for our clients. Our GIS laboratory includes multiple GIS workstations and a flexible staff that helps to ensure that workloads can be scaled to suit the needs of the project. We use a combination of time-tested and cutting-edge data collection techniques to efficiently capture data in the field. Currently we use high accuracy Trimble GeoXH data loggers with the ability to customize data dictionaries to ensure data standardization to reduce data “cleaning” time. We offer services to analyze proposed Right-of-Ways and project disturbance areas for proposed projects. We have used this service in the past for Environmental Assessment preparation and creating the supporting maps for those documents. Also, by using state of the art technologies, we offer services to create photographic simulations of projects for Visual Impact Assessments and posters for informational displays.
